This BYD Dolphin electric car is 4125 mm long, about the same size as the Volkswagen Polo, and larger than the Toyota Yaris.
All use a 44.9kWh BYD Blade lithium iron phosphate battery pack – a design developed in-house and supplied to other brands such as Toyota – meaning a driving range of 400km to 420km.
The cheaper entry-level is powered by a 70kW and 180Nm drive motor, growing to 130kW and 290Nm in the more expensive model – cutting the 0-50km/h time (0-100km/h is not offered) from 3.9 seconds to 3.0 seconds.
The Dolphin is mounted on BYD’s new 3.0 pure electric vehicle platform, with MacPherson strut front suspension and torsion beam rear suspension. The disc brakes at both ends are enhanced by regenerative braking.
